How Does The BMW Service Indicator Function?
There are two versions of the BMW service indicator. The older system consists of five green lights, one yellow, and one red. After the completion of a service, all five lights will display green. As the mileage increases, the green lights go off one at a time. The yellow light will then illuminate either with an “Oil Service” or an “Inspection”. It depends on which service is due for your car.
The newer BMW models come with an alphanumeric display that shows the number of miles remaining before the next service or inspection. BMW recommends doing an oil and filter change halfway between the factory services (5,000 miles for conventional oil and 7,500 miles for synthetic oil).
